Well, to be honest, it happened 3 weeks later than I thought it would given that we're new to this whole thing. We have had to say goodbye to Goldfish Bishop #1 and Goldfish Bishop #2. Poor little fishies. We're still not sure what caused it, but the little guys just went into hiding and then wouldn't eat. They were the smallest of the 6 in the aquarium. Jathan hasn't been phased at all - of course, he's too young to understand the concept completely. He did tell us that "fishy fall down" and "fishy sad." We told him that the fishy got really sick and went bye bye. He told me that "Daddy throw fishy away" referring to the flushing "ceremony." He has said since then several times that the fishies are sad. :-(
We still have 4 left. Ironically, the 4 left are the 4 that we had given names - Blue (he's white and gold), White (he's gold), Fatty (he's well...fat) and Rudy (he's just Rudy). I love their names.
Jathan loves feeding the fish and reminds us every morning, afternoon, and evening that he needs to feed them. Twice we've cleaned the tank to find he's decided they might enjoy a butterfly from his Elefun game. We've had to talk about not putting stuff besides their food in the water and not hitting the glass, but all in all, he's done great and has really enjoyed them. Good job, Santa.
Totally unrelated and irrelevant to anything in this post, here are some other Jathan funnies as of late:
On the way to daycare the other morning, I had the following conversation with Jathan: "Mommy loves Jathan." He looked at me and very quickly and sternly said "No!!!! Pop-o loves Jathan!" Apparently, only one person at a time can love Jathan and Pop-o was the winner that day. That boy LOVES his grandparents and that makes my heart happy.
A couple of weekends ago, I overheard Jathan and Russell have the following brief conversation. J: "Love you, Daddy." R: "Love you, too." J: "Sweetheart." <3 <3 <3
We've been limiting Jathan's liquid in take in the evenings in hopes that we'll get the final stages of potty training mastered soon. The other night we all got ready for bed, I tucked Jathan in, and came into our bedroom. A few minutes later, we see a light on in the kitchen. Jathan had gone in the kitchen, opened the refrigerator and proceeded to get himself a "PriSun" (CapriSun). He was in the process of trying to put the straw in the pouch when Russell found him. Poor kid was thirsty! lol
I'd close by saying I love that little guy, but my best guess is that today belongs to Pop-o as well. Oh, well....
Let's Cheer for the 100th Day of School!
