Apparently, my body does not "enjoy" being pregnant. Pregnancy appears to take its toll on me. I've been struggling for several months now with an elevated heart rate and I was so very hopeful that I would be able to make it through this pregnancy without the complications of blood pressure again. Well, no such luck. We made it 2 weeks further than we did with Jathan before my blood pressure started acting up.
On Tuesday the 3rd, I went in for my regular appointment to find that my blood pressure was high. Dr. Mascorro sent me over to the hospital for observation. We stayed for about 6 hours and were monitored closely, had a sonogram, received some IV fluids, and had blood and lab work done. The doctor released me late that afternoon and sent me home on bedrest until my next visit.
During the sonogram at the hospital, the sonographer shared with us that the baby was measuring to weigh right at 5 pounds and appeared to have lots of hair -- imagine that!!
I had my follow up visit this morning after a week of bedrest. I'd periodically checked my blood pressure and heart rate at home during that week and for the most part it stayed within a good range. My heartrate even registered in the 70s and 80s during that time! What a change from the 115s I had been having on a regular basis. As soon as I was up and moving, my blood pressure and heart rate shot back up. My doctor informed us today that she'd like me to stay on bedrest one more week and then we'd plan to induce on Tuesday, January 17th.
So.....within a week's time, this sweet little princes I've been cooking up for the past several months will finally join our family. It's almost surreal to think that we're about to go from a family of 3 to a family of 4!
We shared the news with Jathan that his baby sister would soon be here and he was so excited. He said "We're going to go to Kerra's birthday party!" I told him we could get a cupcake or small cake and have her a party when she arrives. He then told me it needed to be a Spongebob (uggggg) cake. When I told him that we'd never do a Spongebob cake, he said "How about Bob the Builder?" He wanted to know who all was going to come to Kerra's birthday party and made sure that I knew he wanted to be the first one to sing happy birthday to her! We are trying our best to make this a special occassion for him as well and I just know that he'll do great and be the best big brother Kerra could ever hope for!
Let's Cheer for the 100th Day of School!
